I've always loved creative projects, writing, drawing, painting, and story-telling (in various ways), and picture books have had a special place in my heart. I've carried my favorites with me through college, cross-country moves, and into family life. Now I'm on a journey of writing my own stories (often late at night)! Many of my stories are inspired by my experiences as the daughter of immigrants and my Filipinx American heritage. I also enjoy writing fun and heartfelt stories with a dash of humor.
For my day job, I have a meaningful career focused on gender equity, social justice, and college student development. This work continues to give me purpose and inspiration. It inspired me to start writing for children in the first place, along with the children in my life. I write to bring joy, inspiration through representation, new perspectives, and warm fuzz to readers young and old.
I'm a member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and have participated in Julie Hedlund’s 12 x 12 Challenge, as well as numerous KidLit conferences and workshops. I also hold degrees from UC Irvine (BA, Psychology), the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (MA, Higher Education), and the University of San Francisco (Ed.D, Organization & Leadership in the School of Ed.). I'm proud of my education (as my mom instilled), and also deeply believe in the learning and growth that life presents outside of the classroom.
Bonus: a few more fun facts about me - I'm the mom of one awesome, creative, and spirited kiddo. I love quotes, travel (which included circumnavigating the globe on a floating university), and chocolate. And, I'm obsessed with anything teal/turquoise.
